Uganda Tours gets new leadership
Herbert, new President of UgandaTours
UGANDA TOURS (eTN) - Information received over the weekend, albeit
sketchy, speak of Herbert, founder of the Uganda tours associations and the Uganda tours Bird Guide, having been
elected to the office of President of the Uganda Tour (Uganda Tours), apex body
for the various tours trade associations in Uganda to tour. Herbert himself
posted a comment about a related article on this correspondent, reading: “The
‘slow but sure’ concept is working at Uganda Tours. Now a new leadership
has been put in place for Uganda tours. Herbert is now leading
the UgandaTours. A lot of work ahead,” all but confirming his election to be the
head of Uganda tours
The Uganda tours Guide
Association, in its early stages shunned by many of the Uganda tour operators
over fears for demand for fair compensation for the guides’ services but also
for having to deal with them on equitable terms, Uganda tours eventually
managed to get enough votes from the UT board to elect them to membership, Ugandatours supported at the time by this correspondent who served as UgandaTours President from 2000 until early 2007. USAGA responded to the
admission to the ranks of Uganda Tours by repaying the
industry by professionalizing guiding services to help Uganda tour operators,
introducing guide training and later on establishing a formal guide
certification process, which has lifted standards and now compares with the
best in Eastern Africa tours
Herbert last year was the first to
publicly speak out about the industry’s need for change at Uganda tours, and then
relentlessly kept chipping away to convince his peers and colleagues to agree
with him, before his “slow but sure” approach finally worked out.
Congratulations to Herbert – and his yet to be announced team at the helm of Ugandatours - and thanks to the now immediate past President Amos for his
services to the industry.
